“Every few years there’s a garden that people begin to talk about,” Christopher Woodward. Director, The Garden Museum

Charlotte Molesworth: Where gardening meets art.

On Christmas Eve 1983, along with one donkey, two dogs, two cats and seven chickens, artist and gardener Charlotte Molesworth and her husband Donald moved into their dilapidated cottage. Her garden has inspired countless gardeners and is in Troy Scott-Smith's (Sissinghurst Head Gardener) top 10 UK gardens!

Join us to hear Charlotte explain how over 40 years they created one of the UK’s most enchanting and creative gardens, from cuttings gifted by family and friends.

Charlotte’s talk will be followed by a panel discussion on the interplay between gardening and art and whether gardening is an artform. The panel will include Charlotte Molesworth, artist Cleo Mussi, who designed the planting in the Walled Garden, and Fiona Haser Bizony, founder of Electric Daisy Flower Farm.

There will also be a private view of Cleo Mussi and Fiona Haser Bizony’s joint exhibition ‘Photosynthesis’ in the gallery space.

Exedra Nursery will have a choice collection of plants to buy on the evening.

“Good soil is the life of a garden – that’s where you’ve got to spend. A penny for the plant and a pound for the hole”
Charlotte Molesworth

Leaf & Dig Presents:
Troy Scott Smith

Past event: December 2022. Tetbury, Gloucestershire

“Sissinghurst is unlike any other garden I know. From my very first encounter, 34 years ago, it took my breath away and still today when I walk through the wooden gates and under the entrance arch, the hairs on the back of my neck stand on end." Troy Scott Smith

Reimagining Vita Sackville-West's Sissinghurst: A Garden Rediscovered

80 guests attended as Troy Scott Smith talked us through his lifetime of gardening and what has pulled him back to Sissinghurst Castle Garden over the last three decades, twice as Head Gardener. He described the work the Sissinghurst gardening team are doing to rediscover the beauty and romance of the garden that he felt had been lost over the years. He explained how the striving for horticultural excellence had reduced the spirit and feel of the garden.

Off the stage, we had local stall holders Tom’s Yard and Monty & Co.
