Climate action

We have partnered with Bristol based ‘Ecologi’ to make the Leaf & Dig team a ‘climate action workforce’. We might be a small business but we believe everyone can and should do their bit.

This means offsetting the carbon footprint of each Leaf & Dig employee’s life, as well as offsetting the travel in our vans. Currently, all of this adds up to 22 tonnes of C02 per year.

Ecologi help us to off set our footprint by planting trees and funding the world’s best climate crisis solutions. They have 15,000 individuals and 6,000 business signed up already, making it easy and transparent for us all to do what we can.

Our gardening approach

We believe in gardening as sustainably as possible. Some of the steps we take can be seen below.

  • Compost

    Only using peat free compost.

  • Pest control

Creating gardens that encourage bio-diversity as a means of pest control, instead of using chemicals.

  • Fertiliser

Using organic materials such as composted manure, mushroom compost and organic seaweed extract as a plant fertiliser.

  • Power

The electricity to charge our power tools is from renewable sources via Ecotricity, who are based just down the road in Stroud.

  • Green waste

All garden waste is composted or recycled. Wherever possible this is done on site, rather than driving waste around, keeping the organic goodness in your garden.

  • Tool hygiene

Use of insecticide free disinfectant for tools, based on extracts of citrus fruit.

  • Travel

Limiting the time driving between clients by working full or half days at each client. More time gardening and less time on the road.

  • Plant sourcing

The majority of our plants are sourced from nurseries in the local area, no more than 20 miles away, again limiting time on the road.

Let’s work together

We know we are not perfect (for example our vans aren’t electric…yet!) but we will continue to find ways to integrate more sustainable practices into our gardening.

If you have any specific requirements or ideas for sustainability when we work in your garden, we’d love to discuss these with you.
